How to Add Scanlines to an Image

Step 1: Open the picture you’ll be using.

Here’s what I’ll be using.

Step 2: Go into a “file” and click “new”.

Step 3: Choose the settings as seen in the picture above and then click “OK”.

Step 4: Go into the “Zoom Tool” by clicking "Z" on your keyboard and click “Fit On Screen”.

It should look like the image below.

Step 5: Take the “pencil tool” and set the brush size to “1”.

Step 6: Set the “foreground layer” to black and click on the top of the scanline layer to make a black pencil mark (as seen below).

Step 7: Go into the “Edit” menu and click “Define Pattern…”, name the pattern scanline and click “OK”.

Step 8: Exit the scanline image (no need to save it) and go back to your previous image.

Step 9: Go into the “Layer” menu, in “New Fill Layer” and click “Pattern…”.

Step 10: Click “OK” on the “New Layer” box. In “Pattern Fill” box, make sure your scanline image that you made earlier can be seen on the left side of the box and that the “Scale” is “100%” . Click “OK”.

Step 11: Make sure the scanline layer is highlighted and then click on the “Normal” menu above it. Then click on “Soft Light”.

Step 12: Flatten and save the image and you’re done!

Here’s my finished image!
