How To Use Templates

Step 1: Open your desired image and template.

Here’s what I will be using.

Template 05 found in templates

From manga For Us Who Begin With Love

As you can see, this image is far too big to fit in this tiny template. If you think the image is too big, go to the resize page to learn how to change its size.

Now that’s better, right? We won’t know until we put it in the template.

First off we have to change the "mode".

Step 2: Click on the template, go to the "Image" menu, into "Mode" and click "RGB Color"

Step 3: Now that we’ve changed the "mode", it’s time to put the image into the template.

There’s two ways to do this.

A: Drag the image. If you do this one, skip to Step 6

  • Click on the image you’re using and don’t lift your finger! Keep the image clicked. Now drag it into the template.

  • OR

    B: Copy the image.

There's two ways to do this.

  • Click on the image and press "Ctrl" + "A" at the same time.
  • Or go into the "Select" menu and click "All".

  • It should look something like this:

Step 4: Now press "Ctrl" + "C" or go into the "Edit" menu and click "Copy".

Step 5: Select the template again.

Step 6: Press "Ctrl" + "V" or go into the "Edit" menu and click "Paste".

Step 7: Drag the image into place. Does it not fit? Resize the image and repeat steps 3a+7 OR 3b-6 (which ever step of 3 you did [A or B]).

Now that it’s aligned, it’s time to start extracting parts of the image that you don’t want.

Step 8: First, we have to place the template over top of the image. To do this you need to go to the "Layers" box and drag it on top.

Step 9: Click on the "Zoom Tool" and either zoom in on the template until you can see all the little dots or click "Fit On Screen" (depends on your resolution [i.e. 1024x768 can do this]).

Step 10:Take the "Magic Wand Tool" and click on a part that isn’t pink .

Step 11:Go to the "Layers" box and click on "Layer 2" or on your image layer (don’t move it).

Step 12:Delete it by pressing "Delete" on your keyboard.

Step 13:Go to the "Layers" box again and click on the template.

Step 14:Repeat steps 10-13 until everything but the border and pink of the template are gone.

Side Note: You can also do this by using the "Eraser Tool" but remember to set the tool mode to "Pencil" and have the "Master Diameter" to be "1px" and be careful where you erase.

Step 15: Now take the "Magic Wand Tool" , click on the pink and delete it.

You can now see the image right?

If you can’t or something doesn’t look right, read through the steps again and see where you might’ve gone wrong. If you still don’t know, comment or contact me and explain what’s wrong and I’ll try to help.

If you can see the image, it’s time to save it.

Step 16: Go to the "Image" menu then into "Mode" and click "Indexed Color".

Step 17: This should come up. Make sure you have the right settings as below and then click "OK".

Step 18: Now go into the "File Menu" and click "Save As".

Step 19: In "File Name:" type the title of the image.

Step 20: Under "File Name:" should be "Format:". Click on the menu and go to "CompuServe GIF (*.GIF)".

    Step 21: Click "Save".

Step 22: "GIF Options" should come up. You can choose whichever you like best. If you don’t know, leave it on "Normal" and click "OK".

    That’s it! You’re done.

    Here’s how mine turned out.
